Follow Your Dreams Finale

It’s been a dream turned reality to be cast in the brand-new show, “Follow Your Dreams,” at Hong Kong Disneyland! I’m incredibly proud to open this show after two months of hard work.

The rehearsal process has been intense! Rehearsing a show on the castle stage means working around the park’s opening hours. We’ve had days where we’ve started at 3am, days where we’ve started at 10pm, all to make sure the new show remains a surprise to our waiting guests. It has been rigorous and stressful thanks to Hong Kong’s continuous summer rain!

Having said all that, I truly feel like I’m growing as a performer. I’m learning so much from the directors, choreographers, and fellow cast mates. I first auditioned for HKDL in 2011- look at us now!

The Wires

The Wires: Hong Kong’s misfit-filled covers band. The sweat on Alexi’s brow, the concentration on Jerome’s face, and the smile on my face while belting out Melt’s Sour Candy tells you everything you need to know about this experience. Being a part of this band during COVID brought me back to life and gave me the experience of fully loving and enjoying performing (thanks to a couple drinks). A stage and a crowd of friends, drinks flowing, good music playing; I’ll forever remain grateful for this particular time in my life.

For one thing, the colors are much more distinct in SoHo. They’re brighter. Perhaps that’s a reflection on the people living here. But for many of the cast-iron buiildings that give SoHo it’s unmistakable character, the reason for their bright coloring is actually pretty obvious: whenever you construct anything from wrought iron, it’s going to look like, well, wrought iron.

So the colors of SoHo as they’re known, or at least as they ought to be known, the colors that are just a street photographers dream come true (where else can you find so many amazing backdrops?), are actually the result of many, many coats of bright paints. And they light up a photo in ways even a flash cannot.

Jerold and Friends

For me, it’s all about New York streets. They’ve been immortalized in who knows how many songs and poems, movies and books, but even though I’ve spent years documenting them with my photography, I don’t think I’m any closer to understanding them than I was when I started. They are their own kind of art, and for a photographer, all you need to do is setup the shot and take it. I have lived in New York for only five years, but I have been a working, professional photographers for fifteen years now.
